So Long and Thanks for all the Wix

Because time is a flat circle and everything sucks now, I'm moving this blog off the accursed Wix platform in the coming weeks and back to a self-hosted solution. With the increase in AI-driven enshittification across every fucking surface of our lives I'm finally taking a little bit of ownership of my own content and doing things the hard and rewarding way. The new platform isn't the old platform, but it's pretty close to what I have here, the features actually work (because I wrote them), and server hosting is free thanks to an old repurposed laptop humming away under the desk in my office.

I'll be using a new domain as well, very much under construction right now but feel free to check it out. This place should redirect there once everything has been migrated over, which of course Wix makes really fucking difficult, as you'd expect of an extractive, shitty tech company in 2026. This will take time, I'm about 1/3 done. Then I'll have to migrate the domain from another dogshit companty GoDaddy over to Cloudflare to avoid GoDaddy's 200-300% markup on domain renewals. As I type this Wix is trying to turn a part of the previous sentence into a hyperlink which really sums up the absolutely bloated, shitty mess this platform has become in the roughly 7 years or so I've been here. In that time they've upped their rates considerably and the product has gotten demonstrably worse. Another community site I help manage via Wix actually had a data breach recently that was entirely their fault, involved minors and the organization refused to take responsibility for any of it. There's also the fact that the company was founded by former Israeli military officers and generally seem to support a genocide, so uh, that's gonna be a huge no from me dawg. Absolute shit-show, pumped to put this place behind me

I'm so very exhausted with the state of the world and resolve to write more about it once I'm on a stable, self-hosted platform. Here's to happier and better days ahead.
